Children's Toys... Trivial or Fundamental?
When there are children in the home, it seems
like you are always tripping over toys or searching for a misplaced plaything. The accumulation of so many things can
lead you to wonder if children’s toys trivial or fundamental. The answer is, it depends.
The truth is, most moms could throw away half of the toys in their
kids’ rooms, and no one would ever notice. There are a number of reasons that moms hold on to so many. In
many cases, mothers, rather than the kids, have a sentimental attachment to certain items. We remember when our little
one played with a certain toy several years ago, or how a favorite friend or relative gave an item as a gift. But for
children, these things are often not important.
If your child has a toy that he or she has not played with in over six months, chances are that it is not important
to your child. You can choose to give it away if it is in good shape, save it somewhere out of the way, or throw it
away if it is broken or badly soiled. Your little one probably won’t notice. For kids that are old enough
to notice that things are missing, you will want to include them in the process, even giving them a say in what items are
tossed, packed away, taken to charity, or given to a younger friend.
On the other hand, developmentally, toys are very fundamental to children. They teach skills, such
as how to throw and catch, how to climb and run and jump, hand eye coordination, and other skills that develop muscle and
brain. Children are not born knowing that gravity causes things to fall to the ground, however, young babies learn this
idea rapidly by dropping items which tumble to the floor.
They also learn about their world though observation and interaction with their toys. As kids get older,
they learn about the people and places around them through their toys. You will see kids playing adult roles by cooking
on a pretend stove, talking on a play phone, or making truck noises as they race small cars pass your feet. Each one
of these activities that may seem like play to you is actually your child’s way of learning more about his or her world.
For this reason, toys are important because they allow children to make sense of the world around them by interacting with
it through their playthings.
A special note
about safety objects that often come in the form of a certain toy, such as a blanket or stuffed animal. These items
are very important to children because they help a child to focus away from things in the world that are scary to them by
learning that they can depend on a certain toy that is always there. These safety objects teach your children about
the idea that certain things are real, and will always be there, and so there are many good reasons to allow your child a
safety object.
While children often have too many toys,
age appropriate and well loved ones are crucial to a child’s development. You may be tempted to toss out all that are
underfoot, remember that they are an important way for children to learn about the world around them, and it is worth spending
money on quality, age appropriate toys for your child. In
conclusion, most are not trivial time wasters. However, only you as parents decide which types of toys you allow in
your home, trivial or fundamental.
Great Fun &
Enjoyment!!

Classic Toys vs. Computer Games
The childrens toys for babies and toddlers
are numerous. There are many now that are technologically based. The switch from blocks to interactive toys is
necessary. However, it also removes some of the basic learning skills inherent in the old classic wooden toys.
Classic childrens toys are "hands on" with simplistic methods of solving a problem. It may have been
completing a puzzle or building a small tower made of little pieces. By doing these tasks one learns stimulative thinking,
problem solving and creativity emerges.. The only way some individuals can learn is by experimenting via hands-on and
touch.
Classic wood toys are known for their ability to develop motor skills and their durability.
These toys usually last throughout a child's toddler years and beyond. Some even last from one generation to the
next. Unlike computer games whose life expectancy is a year or two.
Children's wooden
toys are a value relative to the cost. No they are not shiny and plastic that need batteries, nor are they easily broken
and soon cast aside for the next new thing.
Owning one of these toys, a child receives the
essentials necessary to comprehend technological children's toys that are surely coming their way.
